Let’s talk about snacks, kid snacks specifically. Why is it that kids seem to possess a superhuman ability to eat snacks? Well friends — here’s the deal. Kids are in the business of growing and being active which means their bodies need lots of fuel! Not to mention many grab and go snacks advertised to kids provide quick energy from carbohydrates, but offer little in the way of sustained energy from protein, fat or fiber.
So if you’re anything like me, you do your best not to leave the house without sustenance for your littles. And sometimes you want that something to be easy-to-grab and not-too-messy, ya know, the holy grail of all kids snacks. Though no kid snack is perfect, the following ones come pretty close to meeting that criteria. Plus they all offer some nutritional bonuses that I love!
Grab and Go Kid Snacks for Hot Weather
- Simple Mills Farmhouse Cheddar Crackers: My FAVORITE cheese cracker because they taste like real cheddar! Plus they are made with a nut and seed flour blend giving them more protein and fiber than a typical cracker.
- GoGo Squeez Applesauce Pouch: I think it’s a proven fact that kids love pouches and these applesauce ones are no exception. My son loves the fun drawings on these. I love that they are free from added sugar.
- Chum Fruit Bites: We’ve nicknamed these Bear Snacks at our house due to the fun packaging! These fruit snacks are made 100% from real fruit and are full of fiber.
- Chomps Meat Sticks: These meat sticks pack a protein punch! They are great on their own or paired with another snack.
- Serenity Kids Puffs: Both of my kids love these savory puffs. They are a nice change from other super sweet puffs and are made with an alternative to rice flour which can contain heavy metals.
- Skout Organic Kids Bars: We discovered Skout bars earlier this year and LOVE them for their fun flavors and stellar ingredient list.
Oh and it’s worth mentioning — all these snacks are tasty for adults too! Don’t forget to pack a snack for yourself next time you’re headed out!
